Breanna Workman, a 2017 graduate of University of Arizona, where she was a four-year forward for the Wildcats, joined the NJIT women’s basketball staff as Director of Basketball Operations in 2018-19.
“Breanna is more than ready for this next step in her basketball career,” first-year head coach Lane commented. “She can rely on her playing career at Arizona plus her coaching experiences at the Division II and High School levels to handle the responsibilities of being our Director of Basketball Operations. Breanna will continue to rely on the work ethic, passion and know-how which brought her to our attention. She has a relentless approach to life and that will serve her quite well in this role. Our staff and players can't wait to welcome her to Newark!”
Prior to arriving at NJIT, Workman coached one season (2017-18) as an assistant coach at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, California.
As a player, she worked her way up Arizona’s depth chart throughout her career, becoming a starter by the end of her sophomore season and playing in 116 games in her Wildcat career.
She averaged career-highs in points (8.1), rebounds (5.3) and tied her career-high with 17 points against Oregon State during her senior campaign.
At Centennial High School in Las Vegas, Workman led her team to a state championship as a sophomore and advanced to the semifinals in her senior season. She was named second-team all-State as a junior and first-team all-District during her sophomore and junior campaigns.
Beyond the basketball court, Workman has served as a multi-year mentor for Delta Academy and the Tucson Boys & Girls Club, guiding youth in healthy problem-solving and developing leadership qualities. She also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Diamond's Children Center.
Workman graduated from University of Arizona in May 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Care, Health, and Society.
Her father, Haywoode, spent a decade with the NBA’s Hawks, Bullets, Pacers, Bucks and Raptors and is a referee in the league.
