PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The NJIT women's soccer team (0-1-0) dropped its season opener to Rutgers (1-0-0), falling 3-0 on Thursday night at Yurack Field.
Patricia Tsokos scored the first goal of the game for Rutgers in the 13th minute. In the 32nd minute, Ashley Baran tallied her first goal of the season off a deflection, assisted by Nata Ramirez.
In the 57th minute,
Mikayla Balio had a breakaway opportunity for the Highlanders, but her shot went wide left.
Sophia Stiles added another goal on a corner kick for the Scarlet Knights in the 87th minute, assisted by Ramirez.
Freshman goalkeeper
Enya Carthy made two straight saves in the 88th minute to prevent another Rutgers goal. She recorded six saves in her collegiate debut.
Rutgers led in shots (21-3), shots on goal (10-0), corner kicks (7-3), and possession (68%-32%).
NEXT UP
NJIT will host its home opener against UMass on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 5:00 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
