Women’s Tennis Ends Spring Break With Win Over Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO — The NJIT women's tennis team wrapped up its three-match spring break trip with a 5-2 victory over fellow Southland Conference member Incarnate Word Thursday afternoon at the Mabry Tennis Center.

NJIT (7-6) picked up the win over UIW (6-7) after claiming the doubles point with victories at No. 1 (Aya El Sayed/Joleta Budiman) and No. 3 (Sandra Dzhambazov/Advaita Saravanan) and singles points from Nos. 3-6 (Amira Badawi, Dzhambazov, Saravanan, Shalom Salvi.

The win over Incarnate Word was an 180 compared to Wednesday's loss to Texas A&M - Corpus Christi: instead of four-of-six singles flights going to three sets or an extra point - and TAMCC going 3-1 in those matches - NJIT split the four singles flights that played out the same way and added the other two singles and the doubles point to get back to the win column.

While the Highlanders' last two matches will not officially count as conference competitions due to Southland Conference guidelines, a highly competitive split against league foes will serve NJIT well in the Southland Conference Tournament from April 22-24 in New Orleans.

NJIT will have two weeks to rest and prepare for its next match at home against Seton Hall on April 2.
