NEWARK, NJ—NJIT women's volleyball lost its final match of the season against ASUN Conference opponent FGCU 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-16) on Sunday afternoon at the Fleisher Athletic Center.
The Eagles, which won its third straight match, improves to a 25-5 overall record, 11-3 in the conference and will be the No. 3 seed in the first round of the ASUN Championships hosted by Lipscomb.
The Highlanders conclude the 2016 season with 11 wins, five wins up from a season ago. NJIT, which began conference competition for the first time in 2015-16, picked up two wins in the ASUN, finishing the season seventh.
FGCU was led by senior outside hitter Lehigh Pudwill with nine kills followed by freshman middle blocker Daniele Serrano (7), Amanda Carroll (6) and Giovanna Borgiotti (6).
Sophomore setter Maggie Rick shared match-high honors with NJIT's freshman setter
Liz Benson with 23 assists. Libero Karissa Rhoades notched double-digit digs with 13 to lead the match. Rick added nine digs.
The Highlanders were paced by senior right side hitter Katarzyna Kloeck with seven kills followed by six from classmate outside hitter
Weronika Wiezik with six kills. Three other Highlanders –
Tess Albyn, Harris and
Mikalah Hughes notched four kills each.
Defensively, Wiezik led the Highlanders with seven digs while libero
Adriana Nieto and Benson combined for five apiece. Hughes and Klocek were match-leaders with four block assists.

Klocek, a transfer from Dowling College in Long Island, NY, following the 2015-16 season, concludes her collegiate playing career at NJIT. A two-time American Volleyball Coaches Association Honorable-Mention as a sophomore and junior at Dowling, Klocek led the Highlanders is total kills (306) and kills per set (2.68).
Wiezik, a transfer Dowling College in Long Island, NY, following the 2015-16 season, concludes her collegiate playing career at NJIT. An American Volleyball Coaches Association All-East Region honoree as a junior at Dowling, Weronika ranks second on the team in total kills (298), kills per set (2.68), service aces (30) and digs (77).
Harris is a two-year member of the NJIT women's volleyball program, after transferring to NJIT from Florida State College at Jacksonville in 2014. This season, Harris combined for 138 kills (1.44kps) and 69 total blocks, which ranks second on the team.
