CHICAGO – The NJIT women's volleyball team defeated Chicago State 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-9), Saturday evening in a Great West Conference volleyball match that was the 2009 regular season finale for both squads.
NJIT, who finishes third in the Great West Conference, closes out the regular season with a overall record of 17-10 and 7-5 in the conference. The Great West Conference postseason championship tournament will be played on November 20 and 21 at Houston Baptist.
Saturday's NJIT attack was paced by sophomore outside hitter Renata Pandolfo, who had a match-high 19 kills, followed by Baaba Hughes (9) and Katrina Hornstein (8). Senior setter Erica Schultz had a match-high 35 assists.
The Highlanders had an overwhelming 11-3 advantage in service aces. Schultz and Pandolfo combined for nine.
On defense, senior libero Sabrina Baby, who leads the nation in digs per set (88 sets, 555 digs, 6.53dps), had a match-best 21 digs for NJIT. Schultz added seven kills.
Chicago State's kill leader was Mazvita Maziveyi with five, while Hanya Minta piled up 13 assists.
