Alex Lopes

Lopes, a New Jersey native returns home after, spending the last two seasons at Jacksonville University.  Lopes’ joined the Jacksonville staff as Assistant and Offensive Coach in 2014, prior to his appointment of Acting Head Coach in May 2016.

Prior to Jacksonville, Lopes held a three-year stint at Fairfield (2012-14) as a Volunteer Assistant Coach where the Stags finished with a winning record, 8-7, in 2013. One of the eight wins came at No. 1 Denver, the first time in school history that the lacrosse program had beaten the top-ranked team in the country.  

He entered college coaching in 2009, as the Offensive Coordinator at Kean University, where he also graduated with a master’s in Elementary Education in 2013. 

Lopes was the Regional Director of New Jersey based Trilogy Lacrosse (2008-12), overseeing all North Jersey Select teams and coached various teams from youth ages through high school.

A 2009 graduate of Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Lopes earned his undergraduate degree in business management.  As a player, Lopes led the Hawks in assists for two years, stands atop for the most games in program history (62) and ranks ninth all-time in assists (52).

Lopes attended Glen Ridge High School where he is the all-time leading scorer in boy’s lacrosse program history (310) and holds the career assist record in New Jersey with 217.

A three-time all-State honoree, Lopes was inducted into the Glen Ridge High School Hall of Fame in 2016.
