NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT women's tennis team blanked visiting Lafayette, 7-0, Saturday afternoon inside the The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.

NJIT registered its first win, moving to 1-2 on the young season.

The Highlanders earned the doubles point and swept all six singles matches for the 7-0 home victory.

"It was a great day for the NJIT Women's Tennis team. Solid play in both doubles and singles matches.  It was nice to have our first win of the season come in our first home match."

Highlander tandem Irene Cocero and Arina Babkova picked up a 6-3 victory over the Lafayette pair at first doubles.

Paula Menendez Alvarez and Feyza Aydin combined for a 6-1 win at the third spot to earn the doubles point.

Menendez Alvarez won in straight sets at first singles, 6-2, 7-5 while Shalom Salvi registered a 6-1, 7-6 victory at the second spot.

Cocero was a straight set winner at third singles, 6-4, 6-2 and Babkova posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at fourth singles.

Aydin recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win at fifth singles and Asima Sazan went the distance at sixth singles to come out with the win, 7-5, 2-6, 10-7.
