No. 3 Women's Tennis Eliminated In Quarterfinals Of Southland Tournament

Box Score SAN ANTONIO — The No. 3 seeded NJIT women's tennis team were upset in the quarterfinals of the Southland Conference Tournament, 4-0, by the No. 6 seed Northwestern State Demons Friday afternoon at the McFarlin Tennis Center.

The Highlanders concluded their 2023-24 campaign with a 15-5 dual match record - their first season of 15 or more wins since 2012-13 (15-6) and their first season with five or fewer losses after double-digit wins since 2011-12 (21-3).

Northwestern State (10-8) eliminated the Highlanders from the SLC Tournament for the second consecutive season with a similar shutout score.

Sandra Dzhambazov and Sofia Pinedo nearly forced a decisive third flight in doubles with a 5-2 lead at No. 2 but NWST clinched the first point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Pinedo was close to earning the Highlanders a singles point as well but her match at No. 3 went unfinished as the Demons won at the second, fourth and match-clinching fifth flights.
