Women's Tennis Blanks Southeastern Louisiana To Open Homestand

NEWARK, N.J. — NJIT Women's Tennis began a season-long seven-match homestand with a 7-0 non-conference shutout of fellow Southland Conference member Southeastern Louisiana Friday evening at the The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.

The shutout is the second in four matches for NJIT (3-1) this spring and gives the Highlanders a look at some of its league competition before the Southland Conference tournament in April. As an affiliate member, matches between NJIT and other members do not count in conference records.

"We had good, solid performances from the entire team today," head coach Patricia Piorkowski McDonald said after the victory. "I was especially impressed with the mental toughness and persistence of each player. Everyone worked hard from start to finish."

NJIT took two of three in doubles to jump out to a 1-0 lead and never looked back in singles. The Highlanders won half their singles flights in straight sets, two in three-set comebacks down a set, and one in three sets after splitting the first two.
