NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT baseball team will hit the road this weekend and open its 2024 season with a four-game series at Miami (FL). All four games will be played from Friday through Sunday at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field in Coral Gables.

SERIES HISTORY
NJIT and Miami (FL) have met once before, a 13-1 victory for the Hurricanes during the 2008 season.
AMERICA EAST PRESEASON POLL
The Highlanders were picked fourth in the seven-team America East Conference. Binghamton took the top spot in the poll, defending-champion Maine was second and UMBC was third. Bryant was picked fifth, UMass Lowell sixth, and UAlbany seventh. This year's conference tournament will once again be hosted by Binghamton.
PRESEASON ACCOLADES
Several Highlanders have received recognition before the season has even gotten underway, led by veterans
Albert Choi and
Luke Longo. Choi was named the Preseason America East Player of the Year by D1Baseball.com, while Longo was named one of the Top 50 catchers in the nation by the same publication. Choi was also named the top pro prospect in the conference by D1Baseball.com. In Perfect Games Preseason America East Preview, it named Choi, Longo,
Aidan Kidd,
Ray Ortiz, and
Ty Sallie Preseason All-Conference and
Cade Ladehoff the leagues Preseason Rookie of the Year.
A VETERAN PRESENCE
NJIT will field one of the older teams in the country this season, with seven graduate students on its roster including
Joe Georgini, who is in his sixth-year with the program. Choi, Longo, and
Kevin Putsky are each in their fifth-years of the program and were key pieces of the 2021 NCAA Regional team.
THE SKIPPER
Robbie McClellan is in his sixth season leading the NJIT program and enters the 2024 campaign just two wins shy of the 100-win plateau. McClellan is once again joined on staff by
Anthony Deleo (sixth season) and
Matthew Greely (second season).
Marquay Mayo joined the coaching staff early in the fall of 2023.
SEE YOU AT YOGI
2024 will be a historic season for the Highlanders as they will play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls. The stadium was recently transformed as part of a six-plus million dollar partnership between NJIT and Montclair State. The Highlanders are slated to open their home schedule on Tuesday, March 12, when they host Seton Hall.

Following this weekend's four-game series, the Highlanders will travel to North Carolina for a three-game series hosted by Elon.
