SYRACUSE, N.Y. --- The NJIT women's tennis team ushered in the start of their spring campaign on Saturday afternoon with the first of two New York road matches. The Highlanders took on ACC foe Syracuse and were shut out by the Orange, 7-0.


Grad Joleta Budiman led the Highlanders (0-1) in their meeting against their Power 5 opponent, taking a set off Syracuse's Zeynep Erman at No. 2 singles (6-3. 3-6, 2-10) and teaming up with grad transfer Shivani Ingle for NJIT's closest doubles match at No. 1, 6-4.

Despite falling in straight sets, Ingle (9 games @ No. 1 singles; 5-7, 4-6) and freshman Irene Cocero (8 games @ No. 6 singles; 3-6, 5-7) pushed their opponents the most outside of Budiman (11 games won).

NEXT UP
NJIT will look to end the weekend at 1-1 when they take on Cornell on Sunday, January 22 at 1 p.m. in Ithaca.
