STONY BROOK, NY--Stony Brook coasted to a 73-41 win over visiting NJIT in America East Conference women's basketball action inside Island Federal Arena.
The Seawolves improve to 8-4 overall, 6-2 in the America East while the Highlanders move to 4-12 overall, 4-8 in the America East.
Three players reached double-figures for Stony Brook led by Asiah Dingle with a game-best 16 points followed by India Pagen and Leighan-Amori Wood with 14 points each. Wood notched a double-double, leading all players with 10 boards as the Seawolves out-rebounded NJIT, 56-to-24.
NJIT was led by redshirt junior Kimi Evans with nine points followed by three different players -- Kenna Squier, Dani Evans and Lyzi Litwinko with six points. Lilly Anderson and Litwinko paced NJIT on the glass with five rebounds each.
Anderson scored the first basket of the game and NJIT took its first lead of the series, 6-4, after a layup by forward Kimi Evans. Stony Brook went ahead by three, 11-7, on a 7-0 run over the next 3:50. Sparked by a three-pointer by Ellyn Stoll, NJIT went on a 9-3 spurt to close out the first 10 minutes with a two-point lead, 16-14.
Stony Brook outscored the visiting Highlanders 27-4 in the second quarter, taking its biggest lead of the game, 21, 41-20.
At the half, Wood led all scorers with 12 points and seven rebounds followed by Dingle with 11 points. NJIT was led by Stoll and Kimi Evans with five points each.
Stony Brook continued its momentum into the third quarter, combining for 20 points, extending its lead to 33, 61-28 and never looked back.
The America East Conference is in the process of revising basketball schedules for the remainder of the season due to the number of postponements in Weeks 1 through 5. The league will announce the revised schedule on Sunday at 5pm for the next two weeks for the games January 30-31 and February 6-7 and proceed on a two-week rolling basis with schedules.
