TYLER STAFFLINGER
Baseball
Senior | Manalapan, NJ
Major: Electrical & Computer Engineering
Quote from head coach Robbie McClellan: "Tyler has been a weekend arm since he joined our program as a freshman. We always love our chances when he is on the mound as he is a great competitor with great stuff. He is scattered all over the NJIT Baseball career leader board, which makes him one of the best pitchers in NJIT history."
Stafflinger started three games on the mound this abbreviated-season for the Highlanders, including Opening Day vs. Monmouth at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, NC. The right-handed pitcher tossed at least five innings in each start, including a performance against Longwood where he earned the win and combined with three teammates to one-hit the Lancers. Stafflinger finished the season with a 1-1 record and recorded a sub-4.00 ERA in 16.0 innings of work. His 17 strikeouts were a team-high.Â
The New Jersey native started 35 games as a four-year member of the program, while coming out of the bullpen twice. Stafflinger pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout against Maryland-Eastern Shore as a sophomore and his top performance as a junior came in ASUN Conference action as he tossed eight innings, giving up just two hits and no runs in a 10-0 road victory over North Alabama. He struck out eight in that win over the Lions and only walked one batter.Â
For his career, Stafflinger has won eight games and struck out 89 hitters in 176.2 innings of work.
