Men's Swimming Finishes Shortened CSCAA Championships In 15th Place

Three-day meet concluded after Thursday due to ongoing COVID-19 situation

CLEVELAND --- The NJIT men's swimming and diving team competed in the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Invitational Championships on Thursday on the campus of Cleveland State University.

The event was scheduled to run from March 12-14 but after the NCAA's decision to cancel the remainder of the 2019-20 winter and spring championships due to the COVID-19 situation, the decision was made to end the the CSCAA meet after today's action.

NJIT ended the meet with 51 total points, good enough for 15th place overall.

MEET RECAP

Nicholas Lyons was the Highlanders' top finisher in the 50 Breast, placing 16th and recording a time of 25.68 to qualify for the event finals.
Edward Madrigal reset the NJIT school record in the 50 Fly, logging a mark of 22.51 that eclipsed teammate Tyler Pollock's mark of 22.78 from the CCSA Championships earlier this month. Madrigal's time was good enough for 22nd overall in the prelims and allowed him to make the B Finals in the event.
Madrigal placed 17th overall between the 50 Fly A and B final participants, logging a 22.81 time.
Lyons came close to matching his prelims time in the B finals, taking 15th overall with a time of 25.78.
Madrigal ended the 50 Back prelims in 21st place with his time of 23.42 and finished the B final 18th overall with a mark of 23.67..
Lyons finished 43rd in the 50 Free with a time of 21.14
The 400 Medley Relay team of Madrigal, Lyons, Mattheau Bonner and Joshua Franco secured a top-10 finish for the Highlanders, placing 10th with a combined time of 3:22.40.
Franco, Lyons, Tyler Pollock and Edward Parks completed the 200 Free Relay in 1:24.18 to finish 15th.
