Dorottya Berczy to Represent NJIT at 2020 National Collegiate Women’s Fencing Championships

NCAA Official Release

NEWARK, NJ—Freshman Dorottya Berczy will represent NJIT at the 2020 National Collegiate Women's Fencing Championships in the Women's Sabre on March 19-22, 2020 co-hosted by University of Detroit Mercy and Detroit Sports Commission at the TCF Center.

Berczy, a freshman from Budapest, Hungary, was the top finisher for NJIT in the women's sabre event at the NCAA Regionals, earning an 11th place finish, in her first season at NJIT.

She went a perfect 9-0 at the LIU Invitational, 12-3 at the Elite Invitational, 13-2 at the Philadelphia Invitational and 14-4 at the Eric Sollee Invitational.

Fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After round robin, top-four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second places, and non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.

An institution's place finish in championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes during round-robin competition.
