NEWARK, N.J. --- NJIT men's lacrosse head coach
Travis Johnson has announced the hiring of
Kris Alleyne as an assistant coach.
Alleyne joins the Highlander program after spending the last two seasons as an assistant at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. Working primarily with the goaltenders and assisting with game planning and recruiting, Alleyne helped Canisius match its highest win total of the decade in his first season (8-8 in 2019). He also mentored All-MAAC Second Team goalie Brad Nordstrom, who anchored a Golden Griffin defensive unit that ranked 17th nationally in scoring defense (10.17) in 2019.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Alleyne serves as the director of the Goalie Factory, an organization that looks to "develop next-level lacrosse goalies through emphasis on proper fundamentals." Alleyne also spent time as an assistant coach for the Puerto Rican National Team (2018-20), helping the team finish eighth at the 2018 FIL World Championships in Israel as a first-year nation.
Alleyne starred collegiately at Rutgers University from 2013-16, earning 2013 BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST honors as a freshman. Alleyne was a four-year letterwinner with the Scarlet Knights, appearing in 53 contests, posting a 10.40 goals against average and .522 save percentage, and recording 545 saves, the fifth most in school history.
Alleyne was a 2016 seventh-round draft pick of the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse. He played for the Rattlers during the 2017 season, recording a season-high 15 saves in his debut against the Florida Launch. He returned to the MLL as a member of the Dallas Rattlers for the 2019 season and the Connecticut Hammerheads in 2020.
Alleye graduated from Rutgers in 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in Communication.
