NEWARK, NJ—Five players scored in double-figures as the NJIT women's basketball team rolled to its first win of the 2019 season, 88-69, against St. Francis Brooklyn Tuesday evening in women's basketball non-conference action at NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.

NJIT (1-6) shot a season-best 59.3 percent from the field (35-for-59), 54.5 percent from three-point range (12-for-22) and 66.7 percent from the free throw line (6-for-9).

The 88 total points are three shy the NJIT Division I single season record, which dates back to 2006 when the Highlanders scored 91 points vs. Norfolk State.

NJIT dished out an NJIT Division I record 28 assists, surpassing the programs old mark of 26 vs. Longwood in 2009.

Freshman center Maria Fux led all scorers with a career-best 19 points on 7-fo-11 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from three-point range to go along with four rebounds and three assists.

Classmate Kenna Squier set two new personal marks in points (18) and rebounds (7), shooting 7-for-10 from the field.

Senior forward Danielle Tunstall registered her 14^th career double-double (third of the season) combining for 16 points and 10 rebounds, including a new personal-best mark of five block shots. 

Redshirt freshman Maddie Martin followed recorded 13 points and seven assists, which ties her personal-best mark (7 assists at Wagner), while shooting 5-for-7 from the field.

Senior forward Milena Bajic made her second appearance of the season, notching a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to go along with four assists and two blocks.

Junior guard Ellyn Stoll chipped in nine points and five assists for the Highlanders in the win.

St. Francis Brooklyn (2-4) was led by four double-figure scorers -- Alyssa Fisher (14), Jade Johnson (13), Nevena Dimitrijevic (13), Jenna Jordan (10) and Ally Lassen (10).  Dimitrijevic dished out a game-best 12 assists while Jordan led the Terriers on the glass with eight rebounds.

NJIT used a first half explosion and shot a sizzling 63.6 percent (21-for-33) from the field to take a 53-36 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, NJIT maintained its double-figure lead, extending its advantage to 18, 72-54, after an 10-2 run sparked by a pair of free throws made by Martin.

The home team pushed its lead to as many as 21 in the fourth quarter, cruising to an 88-69 victory.

NJIT will break for Thanksgiving and return to action on December 4 when the Highlanders host Saint Peter's at 7pm inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.
