Brian Guiliana Steps Down as Head Baseball Coach

8/23/2018 2:57:00 PM

NEWARK, NJ--NJIT Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Lenny Kaplan has announced baseball head coach Brian Guiliana will step down after six seasons, leading the Highlanders.

"We are sorry to see Brian go," Kaplan commented.  "He has been a huge part in the growth of our baseball program since arriving here eight years ago as an assistant coach.  This past season was our most successful since joining the ASUN Conference. He is most definitely leaving the program in a better spot than when he first inherited it - we have a great base upon which to build. I wish him and his family the best of luck as they begin their new life out west."

Guiliana joined the NJIT coaching staff as an assistant coach in 2010-11, filling that role for two seasons until being named to succeed Mike Cole as head coach in the summer of 2012.

His seasons on the Highlander coaching staff have included the program's most successful seasons since it began Division I competition in 2007.

In 2018, Guiliana guided the Highlanders to 22 wins, the most wins since the 2015 season, program's first-ever postseason appearance in the ASUN Conference Tournament, program-best nine ASUN Conference victories, defeated two top-25 teams, five players were named to the All-Conference team, three named to the All-Freshmen team and All-Academic team.  Rising sophomore Julio Marcano, the Highlanders first baseman, became the first NJIT athlete to earn Freshman All-American recognition since competing at the Division I level.

Guiliana registered his 100th career coaching win in a doubleheader sweep over Villanova on March 25, 2018.

Assistant Coach Robbie McClellan will lead the Highlander baseball program on an interim basis for the 2018-19 season.
