Men Place Fourth and Women Sixth at the ASUN Track & Field Championships; Highlanders Earn Three More Spots on Podium

JACKSONVILLE, FL –
NJIT men's and women's track & field finished competing at the 2018 ASUN Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday hosted by North Florida.

The Highlander men placed fourth with 67 total points behind Kennesaw State, Lipscomb and North Florida, and the women came in sixth with 19 points.

The Highlanders posted 17 points in the men's javelin throw, with McNamara taking first place with a new personal mark of 54.69m. The senior was the first Highlander to repeat gold at the ASUN Championships.

Also tallying points for NJIT was Issa Feknous who missed the podium placing fourth (49.64m), Billy Forrester who took fifth (48.31m) and Calvin Gould sixth (47.34m).

Alyssa Mitchko was the only women to place in the top three, with a second place finish in the women's javelin throw with a distance of 37.14m.

The men's 4x400 earned a spot on the podium, getting third with a time of 3:15.98 with the help of Alex Ortega, Ali Merdan, Daniel Leung and Ryan Budhu.

Shannon Turner grabbed a personal-record in the discus throw with a mark of 31.58m

The Highlander women ran a season-best in the 4x400 with a time of 4:03.80 including Sydne Nance, Trish Roche, Kristina Boafo and Ayanna Garrett.
