NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT women's tennis team recorded its first win of the 2017 season, edging visiting Seton Hall, 4-3, Friday evening in women's tennis action at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
NJIT (1-4) picked up the doubles point, recording wins at first and second doubles and followed up with three wins in singles competition. The match came down to fifth singles, where NJIT's
Alba Rosas Garcia, pulled out a three-set victory to secure the win for NJIT. Seton Hall falls to 3-2 on the season.

Ira Miller comments on the victory vs. Seton Hall: "The ladies played an amazing match today against a very tough opponent. We captured the doubles point with hard fought battles and kept the momentum into the singles. Natacha (Minc) continues to be a rock for us in singles and Newcomer
Mayar Eltony notched her first collegiate win in doubles and singles while Alba Rosas Garica closed out the match brilliantly with the whole building watching."

Mayar Eltony recorded a hard fought, 7-6 (6) victory at first doubles. Eltony, who joined the Highlanders in February, picked up her first collegiate doubles victory. In addition to winning at first doubles, Eltony, notched a straight set win at second singles, topping Seton Hall's Michal Matson, 6-4, 6-2.
Highlander pair
Nathalie Habegger and Rosas Garcia were 7-5 winners at second doubles. Rosas Garcia secured the win for the Highlanders at fifth singles, topping Krista Cerpina, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
NJIT's other point on the night came at fourth singles, as transfer
Natacha Minc won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, defeating Katie Kim.
The Highlanders will have a quick turnaround and return back to the courts on Saturday, hosting Akron at 6:30pm.
