JACKSONVILLE, FL—Jacksonville's late run in the third quarter paced by four double-figure scorers defeated visiting NJIT, 75-59, in women's basketball ASUN Conference action Saturday afternoon at Swisher Gymnasium.
With the win, the Dolphins move to 19-6 overall, 7-3 in the ASUN Conference and will host a quarterfinal game in the conference tournament, which will begin on Friday, March 3. The Highlanders drop its second straight, falling to 10-15 overall, 3-7 in the league.
Jacksonville's Sherranda Reddick led all scorers with 19 points, including a 4-for-9 performance from behind the arc followed by Kayla Mercer and Christin Mercer, who each added 15 points. Shalonda Neely came off the bench for the Dolphins and scored 10 points.
Gordon pulled down a game-best nine rebounds to pace the home team on the boards, 44-29. Neely and Brandi Buie grabbed seven boards apiece followed by six rebounds.

The Highlanders were paced by redshirt sophomore
Kelly Guarino's team-best 14 points, including four three-pointers from downtown. NJIT's
Tatianna Torres filled up the box score with 12 points, five assists, four assists, including 8-for-11 from the free throw line.
Freshman
Danielle Tunstall netted 11 points and grabbed six rebounds for the visitors. The six rebounds was a team best. Dudley finished with six points and six assists.
With eight lead changes and two ties in the first quarter, the Highlanders found themselves behind two, 16-18, paced by
Maria Ruban's six points off the bench for NJIT.
Jacksonville used a 7-4 run to begin the second quarter, pushing its lead to five, 25-20, capped by a three-pointer by Jasmyn Brown. After a bucket by NJIT's
Alana Dudley, the Dolphins went on a 7-0 spurt, extending the lead to eight, 32-24.
NJIT's
Tatianna Torres pair of free throws with two minutes left in the second period, sparked an 7-0 run, pulling within one of the Dolphins, 31-32. Highlanders
Kelly Guarino scored the final five points of the half.
At the half, NJIT's Horton, Torres and Ruban each combined for six points while Jacksonville's Sherrand Reddick and Shalonda Neely, also with six points.
The Dolphins rallied for 25 third quarter points and pushed its lead to double-digits on a jumper by Reddick and extended its lead to 14, 55-39, after a pair of free throws by Buie.
NJIT scored the opening five points of the fourth quarter cutting the deficit to eight, 49-57, and to eight for third and final time of the contest, 52-60, on one-of-two from Torres, with 6:34 left to play.
After eight consecutive points by the home team, the Dolphins kept the game out of reach from the Highlanders, securing a 75-59 victory.
NJIT will close out its ASUN Conference road schedule on Monday when the Highlanders visit North Florida at 7pm. In the first meeting of the season, Dudley hit the game-winning shot with :03 seconds, leading NJIT to a 64-62 victory.
