NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT women's tennis team won its third straight match of the 2013 season with a 6-1 victory over Fordham at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility Saturday morning.
NJIT doubles pair
Ksenia Kuzmenko and
Jana Luste started off the match with an 8-6 victory over Fordham's Amy Simidian and Anika Novacek.
Kuzmenko, competing at first singles, won the three-set tilt over Simidian as Kuzmenko dropped the first set, 6-4, but bounced back in the next two frames for a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Luste won in straight sets at third singles, 6-3, 6-2, over Angelika Dabu.
At second and third doubles, the Highlanders won by identical scores, 8-5.
Carolina Zanotta and
Natalia Melibeu cruised past Sarah Ali and Bella Genkina at second doubles while
Monika Graff and
Hannelore MacDonald defeated Fordham's Dabu and Julie Leong at the third spot.
NJIT's Graff won by identical scores at second singles, 6-4, 6-4 topping Ali and Melibeu posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory at fourth singles over Bella Genkina.
Highlanders'
Martina Tripcovici dropped her first set at sixth singles, 7-5, to Fordham's Novacek but battled back for a 6-4, 10-6 victory.
The Highlanders will return to action on Sunday at Noon when the team travels to Dartmouth.
