NEWARK, NJ—The NJIT women's tennis team improved to 5-0 at home blanking visiting University of Rhode Island, 7-0, Saturday at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
 
NJIT, 5-1 on the season, won all three doubles contests and took all six singles matches over Rhode Island to earn the victory.
 
Highlanders' duo Ksenia Kuzmenko and Jana Luste won at first doubles, 6-4, but did not finish the match.  Luste, the only Highlanders to go three sets, pulled out the win with a 6-1 victory in the first set, dropped the second frame 6-4 and bounced back in the final set with a 6-3 win.
 
NJIT's Carolina Zanotta and Natalia Melibeu teamed for an 8-3 victory at second doubles.  Melibeu, competing at third singles won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, defeating Nithila Asokaraj and Zanotta followed up with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the fifth spot cruising past Elizaveta Sadovnikova.
 
At third doubles, Monika Graff and Hannelore MacDonald earned a 8-2 victory.  Graff followed up with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at first singles defeating Galina Chernykh while MacDonald was also a 6-4, 6-1 winner at the sixth spot over Kristin Bertsch.
 
NJIT's Martina Tripcovici won in straight sets at fourth singles topping Karolina Wojciak, 6-2, 6-2.
 
NJIT will return to action on February 23 at 1pm when the Highlanders host Akron in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
