NEW HAVEN, CT – The NJIT men's tennis team blanked Sacred Heart, 7-0, Saturday evening on the campus of Yale University in the first match of the 2012 season.
Sophomore
Petr Rousar and
Victor Martinez got the match started with a 8-3 victory at first doubles followed by another 8-3 win from Highlander pair
Holger Norregaard and
Fraser Croad at the second spot over Sacred Hearts Logan Mohring and Lula Bagi.
Norregaard, competing at the first singles spot, went the distance with Sacred Heart's Chad Sullo. The Highlander sophomore came out on top dropping the first set, 7-6(4), and bouncing back in the next two frames, 6-1, 6-4.
Rousar was a straight set winner over Jake Miller, 6-2, 6-3 at second singles. Martinez battled out a three-set tilt with Mohring at the third spot, falling in the first frame, 6-2, and winning by identical scores, 6-2, 6-2 in the next two sets.
Junior
Joao Tasca, another Highlander to prevail in three sets, was downed 7-6 (6) in the first set and took the next two frames, 6-4, 6-2 for the victory.
Croad and senior
Dan Salomon won in straight sets at the fifth and six spot for the Highlanders. Croad won 6-2, 6-0 at fifth singles followed by Salomon at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-1.
The Highlanders will return to action on Sunday at Noon in The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility hosting Saint Peter's.
