EASTON, PA—The NJIT women's tennis visited Lafayette on Saturday and came home with a 6-1 victory.
The Highlanders are 4-4 in 2010-11 match play. Lafayette is 1-1, as most Fall Semester competition comes in the form of tournament play.
The Highlanders won the first five singles and then took the doubles point by capturing the first two matchups in that category. Lafayette won at sixth singles and third doubles.
All of the singles slots were decided in straight sets and NJIT won its two doubles matchups easily.
The singles winners for NJIT were: Nina Mayevska at number one; Jana Luste at number two; Hannelore MacDonald in the third slot; Ana Lidon in fourth; and, Martina Tripcovici at five.
Tripcovici and Ksenia Kuzmenko teamed for an 8-2 win in first doubles and Lidon and Monika Graff were 8-1 winners in the second doubles match.
Lucy Bass was the most effective player for Lafayette, winning a point for the Leopards in sixth singles and then teaming with Alison Dally for an 8-4 win in third doubles.
Next up for the Highlanders is a trip to West Point, NY, for a match at Army on Saturday, with action scheduled to begin at 10 am.
