EDINBURG, TX – The NJIT women's tennis team completed the first day's action in the three-day, five team tournament Friday afternoon falling, 4-1, to host University of Texas-Pan American at the 2009 Division I Independent Women's Tennis Tournament.

Senior Iulia Doci, whose match was halted yesterday against Chicago State due to the tournament format picked up the only point for the Highlanders, firing out a two-set win over Texas-Pan American's Stephanie Willderding 6-0, 6-4.  Individual matches are to be halted as soon as one team achieves the points necessary to clinch a victory. 

Doci also teamed up with Ana Lidon at first doubles and took an 8-1 victory over Willderding and Reetta Raty.

Host Texas-Pan American recorded wins at second, third and sixth singles notching three points and swept the doubles contests for its 4-1 victory over the Highlanders.

NJIT's Lidon, competing at second singles fell 7-6, 6-1 and Isha Toor lost by identical scores, 6-1, 6-1 at third singles.

The Highlanders will return to action on Saturday when they face Longwood and close out the tournament on Sunday against Seattle.
