NORTHRIDGE, CA—
Cal State Northridge, the nation's second-ranked men's volleyball team, swept Tuesday night's match from visiting NJIT, 3-0 (30-14, 30-21, 30-28) at the Matadome.

The Matadors, who spent the previous two weeks atop the national Division I-II poll, used 14 different players to defeat the Highlanders, who are competing against some of the top teams in country on their Spring Break trip.

Juniors Shane Nelson and Theo Edwards came off the bench to combine for 28 kills against NJIT. Nelson, normally a backup, entered the match at opposite hitter midway through the first set and produced a personal season-high and match-best 15 kills, along with five digs and a service ace. Edwards' 13 kills against the Highlanders also rank as his best total this season.

The match assists leader also came off the bench, as Northridge got 33 assists from Jeff Baxter.

Charles Bell led the NJIT attack with nine kills, while Amobi Armstrong added seven kills. Four of Armstrong's kills came in the third set when NJIT played the Matadors the closest, falling short by two points.

Bell had the only service ace for the Highlanders and shared the team blocking lead with three (1 solo, 2 assists). Rodrigo Correa passed for 18 assists. Glen DeMagalhaes had a match-best 11 digs and Robert Thomas had three blocks, all assists.

NJIT will continue west, heading to Hawaii, where the Highlanders will play two matches against the University of Hawai'i, ranked 13th in the latest national poll. The matches in Honolulu will take place on Friday and Saturday, both at 7 pm Hawaii time.

The matches will be a homecoming for NJIT's Charles Bell, who resides in Haleiwa and was all-state playing at Kahuku High School.
