Women's Fencing at Sacred Heart Invitational

FAIRFIELD, CT – The NJIT men's fencing team competed against three schools Sunday afternoon posting a 2-1 record at the Sacred Heart Invitational.

 

The Highlanders came out on top 18-9 against University of New Haven and edged Yeshiva 16-11.  NJIT dropped a 26-1 decision to host Sacred Heart.

 

NJIT picked up a 6-3 win in the epee competition over Yeshiva led by senior captain Zachary Hvizdak picking up three wins.  The Highlanders were dominant in the foil as they cruised by Yeshiva with a 7-2 victory.  Rookie Matthew DeVenjo won three bouts Sunday.

 

Hvizak and Andrew Kirk were winners in the epee competition as they faced University of New Haven.  Both fencers won three bouts apiece.  Paul Lorenz won two out of three bouts for an 8-1 victory.

 

On the women's side, Sherry Edwards went 6-6 on the day.  Edwards picked up three wins against Yeshiva and University of New Haven at epee.

 

The men's fencing team returns to action on February 1 at the Stevens Invitational.
