NJIT Tops Harvard, 3-0

NEWARK, NJ - The New Jersey Institute of Technology men's volleyball team stayed hot Saturday night, winning its third Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association  Hay Division volleyball match in four days with a 3-0 win over Harvard at the Fleisher Athletic Center.

The Highlanders, now 7-5 overall and 3-3 in the EIVA Hay Division, began their roll with a 3-0 sweep of Sacred Heart on Wednesday night and followed that up with a 3-0 win over Springfield on Friday, before defeating Harvard on Saturday.

All three matches were close Saturday night but the Highlanders came out on top each time, 30-24, 30-28, 30-24.

The Highlanders grabbed game one with a 30-24 victory behind sophomore Eduardo Welter who posted 7 kills on 14 attempts with one error.  Amobi Armstrong recorded three kills in the game while Rodrigo Correa had 11 assists.  For the Crimson Luke McCrone, John Freeze, and Andy Nelson all recorded three kills in the game.

The second and third games started in much the same fashion as the first game.  The Highlanders won both 30-28, 30-24.

The Highlanders were led by Brazilian native Welter with 19 kills and 3 digs, while fellow Brazilian Leonardo Paludo posted 11 kills, 6 digs, and 3 aces.  Freshman Rodrigo Correa had a match-high 47 assists. 

For the Crimson, senior Luke McCrone posted 12 kills and 4 digs, while John Freeze and Andy Nelson both had 8 kills apiece.  Junior setter David Fitz had 36 assists.

Harvard is 3-8 overall, 2-2 in the EIVA Hay.

The Highlanders will host Vassar on Friday at 7 pm in another EIVA Hay match.
