Maria Josefina Castagnola joined the NJIT men’s and women’s fencing coaching staff in October 2023 as a Volunteer Assistant Coach.

Castagnola earned her Bachelor of Biochemistry and Pharmacy from University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2015.  Currently, Castagnola is a Fullbright PhD Scholar at NJIT in the Department of Chemistry and Environmental Science.

From 2021-23 Castagnola was a saber fencer at Fundacio Argentina de Esgrima and was coached by Tomas Francisco Alitisz (South American Champion, 2021)and Lucas Saucedo (National Saber Coach).  She participated in Metropolitan and National Tournaments.

Most recently in May 2023, Castagnola earned a Bronze Medal at the Metropolitan Saber Women’s Senior Ranking.  She also earned Bronze Medals in October 2022, July 2022 and June 2022 at the Metropolitan Saber Women’s Senior Ranking at the Fencing Federation of the City of Buenos Aires.
