ATHENS, GA – The NJIT men's swimming and diving team opened up at the 2015 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships Wednesday at Gabrielson Natatorium on the campus of University of Georgia.
After the first day, NJIT sits in third place through five events with 60 points. UMBC tops the standings with 74 points. followed by Gardner-Webb's 72 points. VMI is fourth (56 points), while Incarnate Word and Howard round out the top six with 34 and 32 points, respectively.
NJIT finished fourth in both the 800-yard freestyle and the 200-yard medley relays, setting new school records in each event.
In the 800-yard freestyle, freshmen
Collin Moore and
Scott Quirie, junior
Richard Seffrin and captain
Brian Capozzola finished with a time of 6:53.35 for the Highlanders.
In the 200-yard medley relay, which consisted of Quirie, Seffrin, Moore and sophomore
Jack Matusiak, the Highlanders clocked in at 1:35.90.
The CCSA Championships continue Thursday starting at 10am with Highlanders competing in the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle, and 200-freestyle relay.
