NJIT’s Rondon and Hollenbach Capture 2013 NJIT Classic Title

NEWARK, NJ—NJIT seniors Breanne Hollenbach and Daniel Rondon captured the 2013 NJIT Classic Title at Branch Brook Park Saturday afternoon.

Hollenbach, who clocked in with the fastest NJIT time on the 5k course, crossed the finish line with a time of 19:04.60.  The senior's time moves her into the top two all-time lists for 5k courses.  Rondon finished the 8k course with a time of 26:07.40 as both cross country teams' competed against Saint Peter's. 

"I was very pleased with the teams' performances today." Head coach Al Alonso stated after the meet.  "I feel we are where we should be at this time in order to finish with a very successful year."

The NJIT men ran their best team average at the NJIT Classic in a time of 26:50, with the team's previous best of 26:56 in 2011. 

On the men's side, Highlander Scott Rizzo took second behind Rondon with a time of 26:15.65 followed by Moheb Thomas (3rd, 27:03.63), Kevin Ratigan (4th, 27:20.67), Zakaria Fouad (5th, 27:23.69), Blake Brancato (6th, 27:29.25), Louis Scheideler (7th, 27:52.18) and Michael Do (8th, 28:29.45).

Other Highlanders represented in the meet were: Arthur Smith, Kyle O'Brien, Norman Hamilton, Timothy Daudelin and Lucas Lamb.

On the women's side, Catherine Cohen took second with a time of 19:29.50 followed by Ybrahina Cohen at 20:14.40.  Newcomer Kelli Hesse finished seventh crossing the finish line with a time of 21:35.50 and Alexandra Arnold finished eighth at 21:35.50.

Other Highlander women represented in the race were: Breanna Gunnarson, Aya Elsekhely, Esther Alfaro and Kelsey Jackson.

NJIT cross country will return to action on October 5 at the Paul Short Classic hosted by Lehigh at 11am.
