Men’s Soccer Announces 2010 Spring Schedule

Head Coach Pedro Lopes announces the NJIT men's soccer Spring 2010 schedule

Spring 2010 Schedule 

NEWARK, NJ – NJIT men's soccer head coach Pedro Lopes has announced the Highlanders 2010 soccer spring schedule.  NJIT will play eight matches including seven against college squads and one against the NJ Rangers (PDL) team.

 

NJIT will host six contests on campus at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcolm Simon Stadium.  The team finished the 2009 season with a 5-14-1 overall record. The five wins were the most in a season for the Highlanders since they began playing a Division I schedule in 2004.  Five members of the men's soccer squad were named to the 2009 Atlantic Soccer Conference all-Conference team -- Rahim Stennett, Gustav Warfving, Chico Lugo, Jack McVey and Pete Walker.

 

The Highlanders will open up the spring season hosting Millersville from Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 3 at 3:30pm.  Millersville finished 17-3 last season and advanced to the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Atlantic Regional quarterfinals.

 

NJIT will host the NJ Rangers (PDL) team and Iona College on Saturday, April 10.  The first match for the Highlanders will begin at 10am against the NJ Rangers.  Iona will face the NJ Rangers at 11:30am and NJIT will wrap up the day against Iona at 1pm.  Iona defeated the Highlanders, 3-0, in New Rochelle, NY during the regular season. The Gaels won the program's first-ever MAAC regular season title.

 

On Saturday, April 17, NJIT will host a three-match event.  NJIT and William Paterson are slated to begin at 10am.  William Paterson finished with an 8-5-6 overall record and tabbed two members of the Pioneer squad to the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) All-South Atlantic Region team.  William Paterson will face Saint Peter's at 11:30am.  NJIT and Saint Peter's will be the final match of the day at 1pm.  Saint Peter's finished with a 5-12 overall record.  The Peacocks scored the only goal of the game topping NJIT, 1-0, on September 16.

 

NJIT will make a short trip to Seton Hall on Saturday, April 24.  NJIT will also face Columbia with times to be determined.  Seton Hall ended the 2009 season with a 4-10-3 mark while Columbia finished 4-12-1.

 

The Highlanders will close out the spring season on Wednesday, April 28 with a home contest against Caldwell.  The match is scheduled to begin at 5:30pm.  Caldwell was 3-12-1 last season.

 

On Saturday, March 27, 2010 the NJIT men's soccer team will host a soccer clinic from 10am –11am on campus at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcolm Simon Stadium.  Please contact head coach Pedro Lopes for more information at plopes@njit.edu
