Stephen Erickson Captures Flight "A" Singles Title

Day Three Results - Men 

 

MONTCLAIR, NJ – Senior Stephen Erickson captured the Flight “A” Singles championship of the NJIT Tennis Invitational Sunday afternoon at Brookdale Park.

 

Erickson, the number one men’s player for the Highlanders, captured all three of his matches in the tournament, including an impressive 9-8 (6) win over teammate Carl Lundquist of NJIT in Sunday’s championship final.

 

The Division I schools participating were: NJIT; Hofstra; Monmouth and Saint Peter’s.

 

Erickson had defeated Robert Foria of Saint Peter’s on Saturday to qualify for the Sunday match against Highlander's Lundquist.

 

NJIT’s Cosmin Chiujdea reached the quarterfinal of Flight “A” singles but lost to Saint Peter’s Stian Tvedt.   Sophomore Lundquist defeated Hofstra’s Stian Tvedt in the semifinals before falling to Erickson in the finals.

 

In Flight “B”, NJIT’s Dimitri Athans fell to Hofstra’s Alex Hosner in the quarterfinals while Bryan Keelan was downed by Saint Peter’s Alex Frakes.  Sophomore Dan Salomon was a 8-1 winner in the consolation final.

 

The Highlanders will return to action on Wednesday, September 23 when they travel to Fordham.  The match is scheduled to start at 3pm.
