JERSEY CITY, NJ -- The NJIT men's and women's tennis teams continued singles play at the NJIT Tennis Invitational Saturday morning at the Yanitelli Center.
In women’s singles action, senior Isha Toor won her first match defeating Saint Peter’s Joniesa Williams, 8-3, in Flight B. Freshman Nina Mayevska fell in the first round of Flight A, 8-6.
On the men’s side, four Highlanders advanced to the quarterfinals of Flight A. Senior Cosmin Chiujdea was a 8-3 winner over Saint Peter’s JJ Gramatica while senior Stephen Erickson took a 8-3 victory over Saint Peter’s Robert Forai.
Sophomore Carl Lundquist defeated Hofstra’s Chris Damion 8-6 and defeated Peacocks Wilkey in the quarterfinals, 8-4.
Junior transfer Diego Abreu topped Monmouth’s Ben Deshiells 8-0 but fell in the quarterfinals by a score of 8-3 to Saint Peter’s Sergey Igel.
The NJIT Tennis Invitational will conclude on Sunday with matches beginning at 9am at Brookdale Park in Montclair, New Jersey.
