Utah Valley Downs Highlanders, 3-1

Sabrina Baby posts 15 digs for Highlanders

OREM, UT – The NJIT women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to Utah Valley in four sets (14-25, 21-25, 25-21, 9-25) in a Great West Conference volleyball match-up in Utah Thursday night at the Shurian Family Athletic Center.

 

The Highlanders, who took a thrilling 3-2 victory from Utah Valley back on October 10 in Newark, fall to 16-10 overall, 6-5 in the conference while the Wolverines improve to 20-9 on the season, 10-2 in the conference.

 

NJIT's Baaba Hughes and Renata Pandolfo each recorded nine kills while senior Katrina Hornstein followed in the kills' column with seven.  Setter Erica Schultz registered 23 assists for the Highlanders.

 

Leading the Highlander defense was senior libero Sabrina Baby, the national Division I leader in digs per set, with a team-high 15 digs.  Hughes added 10 as Schultz and Pandolfo posted seven apiece.

 

The Highlanders had their most efficient offensive set in the third frame, committing just one error on 21 swings and 10 kills.

 

Utah Valley was led by Camie Manwill's match-high 17 kills while teammate Kayli Broadbent added 16.  Libero Allyce Jones collected a match-high 16 digs while Dani Robison had a match-high four blocks.

 

The Highlanders will wrap up its regular season on Saturday at 2:00pm (CT) when they travel to Chicago State in a Great West Conference match-up.

 

The Great West Conference postseason championship tournament will be played on November 20 and 21 at Houston Baptist.
