NAPERVILLE, Ill. – NJIT women’s soccer player Sadie Mele has been selected Great West Conference Defensive Player of the Week the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Mele, a junior from Rio Rancho, New Mexico, posted two Great West Conference East Division wins and seven saves last week.
Friday, Mele recorded three saves in the Highlanders 5-2 victory over Delaware State and stopped four in Sunday’s 2-0 shutout against Howard.
Mele registered her third shutout of the season on Sunday and eighth for her career. She now has 13 career wins ranking her first all-time in most goalkeeper wins at NJIT.
With the win on Sunday, NJIT moves into first place in the Great West Conference East Division and clinches the top seed in the East heading into the Conference Tournament in November, hosted by NJIT.
Utah Valley’s Jaime Lyons was earned Offensive Player of the Week honors recording a hat trick in the Wolverines 4-0 Great West Conference West Division win over North Dakota.
Mele and NJIT will travel to Staten Island, NY on Friday to face Wagner at 3pm.
