New Jersey Institute of Technology baseball players Peter Rivera, Robert Forbes, Craig Binkiewicz, Mike Turner, Jeff Potter, Derrick McCain and Chris Parenti were all named to the 2006 New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Division II/III All-State team.
The NJCBA honored its all-state team and major awards at its annual dinner at the Pines Manor in Edison on May 30.
Rivera, Forbes and Binkiewicz were all named to the NJCBA second team. Turner, Potter and McCain were honored with honorable mention, while Parenti was tabbed on the all-Rookie team.
Rivera, a sophomore right hander from Elizabeth, NJ, posted a 3-0 record with a 3.37 ERA and two saves. Rivera has struck out 41 batters in 34.2 innings.
Forbes, a senior from West Caldwell, NJ, hit .395 with 23 RBI and 23 runs scored. His .724 slugging percentage led the team and he finished second with a .465 on-base percentage and fourth with 5 home runs.
Binkiewicz, the Belleville, NJ, resident who was a second-team all-CACC selection, landed second-team all-State honors as a freshman. Binkiewicz, ranks 24th nationally in NCAA Division II batting statistics (.427). He led the Highlanders in hits (56), triples (5), on-base percentage (.513) and stolen bases (19). He was named NJCBA Rookie of the Week three times and CACC Rookie of the Week twice this season.
Turner, from Whitehouse Station, NJ, was second-team all-CACC while hitting eight home runs and batting .351. He collected 47 hits and ranks third on the team in doubles with 9.
Potter, a senior from Cherry Hill, NJ, batted .341, while leading the Highlanders in doubles, with 13. He collected 47 hits and scored 32 runs.
McCain, from Piscataway, NJ, who was voted to the first team all-CACC, hit (.364) with (10) doubles, (5) home runs, (43) runs scored, (36) RBI and (14) stolen bases.
Parenti, a freshman right hander from Elizabeth, NJ, posted a 5-0 mark with a 5.81 ERA in 13 appearances. In 31 innings of work Parenti struck out 26 batters.
