NJIT to Host ECAC Baseball Championship Tournament May 21 and 22; Field Includes Molloy, Felician and Highlanders

May 17, 2006

NEWARK, NJ - New Jersey Institute of Technology will host the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Baseball Championship tournament at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium in Newark on Sunday, May 21 and Monday, May 22.

The three-team tournament is led by top seed Molloy College from Rockville Centre, NY, which comes in at 26-23 overall. The Lions, from the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference, will play at 3:30 pm and again at 7 pm on Sunday.

Sunday's action begins at noon at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium, with #2 NJIT (24-17) taking on #3 Felician (29-25) in Game One.

Molloy will face the loser of Game One at 3:30 pm on Sunday and then Molloy will face the winner of Game One at 7 pm on Sunday.

NJIT and Felician College, both from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, met three times during the regular season, splitting an April 9 doubleheader in a pair of one-run decisions, before Felician took the rubber game, 5-0, on April 28. Felician went on to be a finalist in last weekend's CACC Tournament.

The Highlanders, who finished the regular season 1/2 game ahead of Felician, but did not take part in the CACC Tournament, set a new school record for wins in a season this year with their 24-17 regular season.

The double elimination tournament will continue on Monday at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium, with a game at noon and another at 3:30 pm, if needed.

Monday's schedule will be determined by the Sunday results. If a team loses twice on Sunday, it will be eliminated and the two surviving teams will meet at noon on Monday, with the 2-0 team needing one win to claim the title and the 1-1 team needing to win at noon to force a deciding game at 3:30 pm on Monday.

If all three teams are 1-1 on Sunday, NJIT and Felician will play again at noon on Monday, with the winner facing Molloy for the championship Monday at 3:30 pm.

Tickets, which are valid for one day, all day, are priced at $5 for adults and $3 for students, children and senior citizens.
