New Jersey Institute of Technology rolled past visiting Wagner, 3-0, Wednesday for the Highlanders' seventh women's volleyball win in their inaugural season of competition at the NCAA Division I level.
Wagner surged late in Game One, but the Highlanders secured a 30-23 win, before scoring decisive wins of 30-15 in Game Two and 30-18 in Game Three to sweep the match. It was NJIT's second win over Wagner this season.
Freshman Kasha Hornstein led the NJIT attack with 9 kills, while Agnieszka Pregowska, Kristy Haeckel and Kubra Tanrikulu were also effective. Pregowska had eight kills and just one error, while Haeckel had six kills and one error and Tanrikulu added six kills and two errors.
Setter Danielle Thompson triggered the Highlander offense, with 27 assists. The Highlanders had 14 service aces, paced by Pregowska and Sabrina Baby, with 4 aces apiece. On defense, Baby's 13 digs led the Highlanders, while Haeckel had a team-best 4 blocks.
NJIT will face a difficult challenge on Friday, when it travels to New Britain, CT, for a match against Central Connecticut State, which is 14-7 on the season.
