NEWARK, NJ -- NJIT's men's and women's cross country teams hosted the 2nd Annual Alumni vs. Varsity meet this past Tuesday at Branch Brook Park.
Two alumni, David Kloc ’08 and Mike Genauer ’08 were the first two runners to cross the finish line with identical times of 20:15. Another alumni, Matthew Magnifico ‘08 was able to hold off Joe Ju for a 3rd place finish with a time of 20:36 and 20:37 respectively.
Volunteer coach Al Siuta ‘82 squeezed in for 5th place with a time of 20:40, and the varsity took the next 4 spots consisting of Ben Singleton, Hilton Gooding, Umar Saeed and Christian Baumbach. Duc Tran ’08 and Drew Pennyfeather ’09 rounded off the alumni team.
On the women’s Side, Ewelina Marut was the top finisher for the women with a time of 24:12. Shawntel Young, Kayla Howell, Daisy Gallegos, Christina Roque rounded off the women’s team and crossing the finish line with an identical time of 27:03.
For the second year in a row the Alumni have won this event. Alumni scored 21 points to the Varsity’s 34 points.
The varsity team is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Bethpage State park for the Hofstra Invitational.
