PRINCESS ANNE, MD – Sophomore Christian Baumbach was the top finisher for NJIT as the men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Saturday afternoon.
Baumbach, who captured the Great West Conference men’s individual title and earned GWC Male Athlete of the Year placed 33rd with a time of 33:08.7.
“The conditions were horrible with a section of the course almost two feet underwater, head coach Al Alonso said. With only one senior and the rest freshman and sophomores competing in the race, our future looks bright.”
The men’s team finished in 19th out of 28 teams. NJIT finished third among New Jersey schools.
Senior captain Umar Saeed took 72nd at 34:09.7 while freshman Gooding Hilton and sophomore Joe Ju finished 178th and 180th.
On the women’s side, freshman Ewelina Marut was the top finisher for the Highlanders crossing the finish line at 27:00. Highlanders’ Kelsey Johnson, Iulia Doci and Daisy Gallegos were also featured in the race.
