NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's and women's cross country teams hosted the 6th Annual Highlander Invitational Sunday afternoon at Branch Brook Park.
Freshman Ewelina Marut was the top finisher for NJIT in the 5k race finishing sixth with a time of 20:31.73. Hunter's Liz Mahoney placed first at 18:58.51.
Senior captain Cara Constantino finished 17th at 21:46.40 while junior Kelsey Johnson clocked in with a time of 22:21.00 and freshman Christina Roque finished at 22.50.58.
Highlanders' Iulia Doci and Daisy Gallegos finished side by side with times of 23.19.81 and 23.29.67.
Also featured in the race was: Shawntel Young, Kayla Howell and Zoey Tham.
On the men's side, freshman Hilton Gooding placed fourth in the 8k race at 26:53.37 for the Highlanders. Dowling's Jonathan Cuomo was the winner finishing with a time of 26.22.91.
Classmate Ben Singleton placed seventh at 27.16.90 while teammate Joe Ju finished seconds later at 27:88.34. Miguel Tlatelpa was the fourth Highlander to finish followed by Doug Colaizzo. Tlatelpa's time was 27:40.82 and Colaizzo clocked in at 27:48.53.
NJIT will return to action on Saturday when they compete at the Princeton Invitational.
